49ers get Good News on Elijah Mitchell, Dre Greenlaw Going Into Cleveland

Running back Elijah Mitchell and linebacker Dre Greenlaw are trending in the right direction to be active for the 49ers against the Browns.

Some good news for the 49ers in regards to Elijah Mitchell and Dre Greenlaw.

Both players are listed as questionable going into their matchup with Cleveland. The designations means it will be more likely than not that these two players will be active in Week 6.

Greenlaw had missed the first two practices this week due to a hamstring injury, but was a limited participant on Friday. Initially, Greenlaw was given Wednesday's practice off for rest, but it seemed that his hamstring was bothersome.

“Yeah, it was during our walk-through," Kyle Shanahan Shanahan revealed regarding Greenlaw's injury. "Just did something, didn't feel comfortable with it, and now we're being safe and we'll see how he feels tomorrow.”

It feels like it would be a bit of a risky move to play Greenlaw on Sunday against the Browns. Hamstring injuries are no joke, and Greenlaw has had these soft tissue injuries before in the past that have lingered. Maybe it is in his best interest if the 49ers held him out. But since he has a questionable designation, it usually is skewed towards a player being active for the upcoming game.

As for Mitchell, he has been out since he injured his knee in practice a couple of weeks ago. This week has been the most active he has been in practice since injuring it. Shanahan said Mitchell looked "good" in practice this week.

“He had a full speed practice yesterday and was full-go today. So, he's had a good week," Shanahan said.

With Mitchell poised to play against the Browns, you have to wonder if he supplants Jordan Mason as the backup to Christian McCaffrey. Mason has looked excellent this season in filling in for McCaffrey on occasions and is the more reliable running back. But Shanahan might still view Mitchell highly and give him that spot back.
