Jake Moody has to Relish his Super Bowl Moment

Jake Moody has been shaky for the 49ers in the last three games. There is a way for him to break from his cold streak.
In this story:

LAS VEGAS -- One of the main concerns for the San Francisco 49ers going into the Super Bowl is kicker Jake Moody.

Moody has missed at least one kick in the last three games. The confidence levels with him are not great right now, and that has been the case all season long. Much of that has to do with his confidence in himself.

Every time Moody has gone to take a field goal or extra point attempt this season, he never looks confident. His misses would indicate that. It never looks like a technique issue. Rather, he is overthinking it and doesn't seem self-assured. That needs to change when the 49ers are in the Super Bowl. They cannot afford to miss out on points against the Kansas City Chiefs.

What Moody needs to do is relish his Super Bowl moment. He can't feel timid or nervous about it. There needs to be a way for him to thrive in it, almost like he needs to be cocky about it. Moody has to make it feel fun to allow himself to feel comfortable and relaxed. That is part of why Chiefs' kicker Harrison Butker thrives in high-pressured games/situations.

"For sure I get jitters," said Harrison Butker. "But that's what makes it fun. If I don't get those jitters, then it's not that fun anymore if you're not experiencing that. That shows that you care. It shows that it is a big moment, so I love it. I think it makes it fun."

This is the EXACT mindset Moody needs to have and how he should approach the Super Bowl. It's almost like he needs to be carefree. And if his mindset isn't what needs to be fixed, then perhaps it is as simple as his technique. That should be easy to work on since the Super Bowl will be played in a dome with the elements not playing a factor.

"There is less to worry about," said Butker on kicking indoors. "You can just put that focus into other things like your technique and such."

Regardless of a dome, confidence is likely the key for Moody here. The Super Bowl pressure can easily get to him given the way he has looked in the last three games. But this is where he needs to turn that pressure into excitement. If he can kick like it is always going in, then I believe he can see his manifestation come to fruition.
