49ers @ Seahawks Week 12 Live Blog
This is the live blog for the 49ers' Week 12 Thursday night football game against the Seattle Seahawks. I will update this frequently with information from my living room.
4:05 Here are the 49ers' inactives: Spencer Burford, Ben Bartch, Ty Davis-Price, Jalen Graham, Kalia Davis, Brayden Willis and Brandon Allen.
Burford injured his knee Sunday against the Buccaneers and probably could have played this week if the game were on Sunday, but it's not. So Jon Feliciano most likely will start at right guard while Aaron Banks returns from a turf toe injury to play left guard. And it's possible that Feliciano will be an upgrade over Burford at right guard. Burford is more athletic than Feliciano, but Feliciano is much, much stronger than Burford and might be a better run blocker than him, too.
4:10 The return of Banks is a bigger deal than the loss of Burford. As I wrote about, Feliciano might actually be an upgrade over Burford. And Banks is a big upgrade over Feliciano. Now the 49ers will have their two best offensive linemen -- Banks and Trent Williams -- healthy together for the first time since Week 5. When those two are healthy, it's extremely difficult to stop Christian McCaffrey from running for big gains around the left side of the 49ers offensive formations. Look for the 49ers to have success running the ball today against a suspect Seahawks run defense. McCaffrey should control the game and allow Brock Purdy to complete big passes to wide open receivers off play action.
4:15 Samuel Womack has been added to the 53-man roster and is active for tonight's game. It will be interesting to see if he plays instead of Ambry Thomas.
5:20 The Seahawks win the toss and defer.
FIRST QUARTER
5:30 On 2nd and goal from the 2, Brock Purdy hands off to Deebo Samuel in the shotgun, and Samuel walks into the end zone. What an incredibly easy, precise opening drive from the 49ers, and an excellent script by Kyle Shanahan.
49ers 7, Seahawks 0.
5:36 Dee Eskridge returns the kickoff 66 yards to the 49ers 33-yard line before Darrell Luter Jr. makes a clutch tackle. Then the Seahawks promptly go 3 and out and make a 50-yard field goal. Their offense is pathetic.
49ers 7, Seahawks 3.
5:48 On 1st and 10 from the Seahawks 30, Jauan Jennings commits a holding penalty that negates a 12-yard run by Christian McCaffrey. Then on 3rd and 14, Purdy throws a screen pass to McCaffrey, who loses six yards. Then they punt. They were cruising until Jennings committed that penalty.
5:53 On 2nd and 7 from the Seahawks 10, Geno Smith trips and sacks himself at the 1. He's just atrocious. Two plays later the Seahawks punt to their 45.
SECOND QUARTER
6:04 On 1st and goal from the 1, Christian McCaffrey explodes into the end zone for a touchdown. Purdy got sacked on 3rd and 7 from the 16 but an illegal contact penalty against the Seahawks gave the 49ers an automatic first down. Seattle currently has zero yards of offense.
49ers 14, Seahawks 3.
6:09 On 1st and 10 from the Seahawks 35, Ambry Thomas intercepts a short pass from Geno Smith. Thomas jumped that short pass to the outside. Great play. The 49ers have the Seahawks offense scouted.
6:11 On 3rd and 11, Purdy tries to scramble and gets sacked by Darrell Taylor. The 49ers sit McCaffrey for one series and immediately go 3 and out. After the punt, the Seahawks take over at their 1. The ball was downed by Ronnie Bell.
6:16 On 2nd and 10 from the Seahawks 2, Geno Smith hits D.K. Metcalf deep but he can't get his second foot in bounds. Charvarius Ward was in coverage. Two plays later the Seahawks punt, and the 49ers take over at their 42.
6:24 On 1st and goal from the 8, McCaffrey jukes three defenders in the backfield, spins off a hit and scores. What an incredible player.
49ers 21, Seahawks 3.
6:31 On 3rd and 11 from the Seahawks 26, Javon Hargrave lines up at defensive end, stunts to the inside and chases down Geno Smith for a sack. After the punt, the 49ers take over at their 25. What a statement the 49ers are making on Thanksgiving.
6:40 The 49ers go 3 and out, but DeeJay Dallas muffs the punt and Ronnie Bell recovers it at the Seahawks 22.
6:46 Jake Moody makes a 32-yard field goal with 35 seconds left in the half.
49ers 24, Seahawks 3.
6:54 The Seahawks miss a 53-yard field goal attempt just before halftime. The 49ers played almost a perfect first half.
THIRD QUARTER
7:13 On 3rd and 4 from the 49ers 35, Nick Bosa sacks Geno Smith for a loss of 7, which knocks the Seahawks out of field goal range. After the punt, the 49ers take over at their 4.
7:19 On 2nd and 10 from the 4, Purdy overthrows Christian McCaffrey out of the backfield, McCaffrey lunges and tips the ball to Jordyn Brooks who scores a touchdown. Purdy's passer rating is now 65.3.
49ers 24, Seahawks 10.
7:26 First play of the drive, Aaron Banks commits a false start. Then on 3rd and 6, Purdy throws an incomplete deep pass intended for George Kittle. The 49ers offense hasn't shown up for the second half and the team is winning in spite of Purdy. After the punt, the Seahawks take over at their 10.
7:40 On 3rd and goal from the 7, Arik Armstead and Javon Hargrave both sack Smith for a loss of 6. Then the Seahawks make a 30-yard field goal attempt. The 49ers offense have let the Seahawks back in the game, but the 49ers defense continues to play well despite Charvarius Ward leaving the game with a calf injury during this past draft.
49ers 24, Seahawks 13.
FOURTH QUARTER
7:52 On 4th and 3 from the Seahawks 48, Feliciano commits a false start. The offense has just been terrible in the second half. After the punt, the Seahawks take over at their 13. Charvarius Ward is back in the game.
7:57 On 3rd and 8 from the Seattle 31, Geno Smith turtles up and takes a sack from Arik Armstead and Nick Bosa, and then the Seahawks punt. The 49ers are so fortunate they traded Russell Wilson. After the punt, the 49ers take over at their 36 when Oren Burks recovers Ray Ray McCloud's muffed punt.
8:04 On 2nd and 7 from the Seahawks 28, Brock Purdy throws a beautiful touchdown pass to Brandon Aiyuk. That's the game. The 49ers simly are much much better than the Seahawks.
49ers 31, Seahawks 13.
8:13 On 4th and 1 from the 49ers 21, Nick Bosa tackles Zach Charbonnet for a loss of 1. The 49ers will win. Stay tuned for their grades.
