49ers Training Camp: Nick Bosa just can't shake injury prone narrative
Defensive end Nick Bosa is back in the news again for injury reasons. The San Francisco 49ers first round pick reportedly went down during a running play in practice today with an apparent lower leg injury. It could be nothing or could be something, but according to defensive coordinator Robert Saleh "I don't think it's anything to worry about."
Bosa has had a slew of injuries over the course of the last year. He hasn't taken a single snap for the San Francisco 49ers yet and has already sustained two injuries. The first one was a bit concerning because he injured his hamstring the very first day practicing as a 49er.
Nick Bosa just can't shake this injury prone narrative. It's just unfortunate that he's getting all this bad luck. What is it that he can do to try and defeat this narrative? Well there really isn't much since injuries are more or less freak accidents. There are ways to reduce the likelihood of them occurring, but some people are just injury prone.
This regular season will be a huge telling factor into how durable Bosa really is. If he's going to be injured for a good portion of the season, then questioning the draft selection of Bosa will start to arise. It doesn't matter how good of a player he is if he's missing the bulk of the time. Since this is now the second injury he's suffered, the 49ers may want to explore different ways of handling him during practice.
Bosa may just have to be limited on a week-to-week basis or limited in certain aspects in practice. His worth on Sunday's is what matters not his participation in practice. Just look at what is going on with pass rusher Dee Ford. He's still sitting out of practice after the 49ers tried treating him like a regular player.
Both of them do not need to be practicing much. Save them for Sunday's, which is their sole purpose. Without one or even both of these players the defense takes a major hit. In the end, you just hope this injury from today really is nothing for Nick Bosa.
