Dear John Lynch

Looking from the outside in, it doesn't seem like there's a conducive plan to win a championship next year or in the coming year.
In this story:

Dear John Lynch,

I would like to first congratulate you on an eventful season. Like most 49ers fans, when we were 2-4, I was looking forward to the draft and next season. There even was a glimmer of a small chance of hopefully seeing Trey Lance get an opportunity to play so we could assess what we had in the rookie. But right on schedule, Jimmy Garoppolo pulled a rabbit out of his hat, or more accurately Deebo Samuel put the team on his back and saved the season.

I know a lot of fans would consider that a success which I do as well but, looking forward into the future like a dollar store clairvoyant I'm a bit apprehensive about the direction of the team.

Before I'm considered as an overzealous fan or just a typical guy who doesn't know the true inner workings of the NFL, looking from the outside in, it doesn't seem like there's a conducive plan to win a championship next year or in the coming year.

Let me back my statement up with some facts.

Jimmy Garoppolo is still on the team. That's irresponsible -- even his biggest supporters would have to agree. John, had you gotten Garoppolo off the books last season, you would have rolled over $50 million in salary cap space this year and given Trey Lance what he desperately needs: on field experience and a great supporting cast.

But the roster instead has taken a hit in free agency. And now John, I'm trying to figure out how you expect Lance to star in an offense that has been stripped of some of its talent and depth. This after you gave Garoppolo a championship roster and every chance in the world to ruin two Super Bowl seasons. Are you setting up Lance to fail?

John, at this point it's obvious to everyone you let pride get in your way. You had a chance to get Tom Brady in 2020 but stuck with that bleeping guy (Brady's words, not mine). Then maybe  you had a chance to get Matthew Stafford or Deshaun Watson or any of the top free agents available this year. Maybe if you had relieved Garoppolo of his duties last year, that necessary cap money you needed this offseason would be available. This might not be true but it helps me sleep at night.

Garoppolo cost us players such as DeForest Buckner, Laken Tomlinson, Tom Compton, Raheem Molstert, D.J. Jones and more. So why is Garoppolo still on the team?! I would love to hear your answer, John, and if the answer is what I think it is, then my deepest, darkest nightmare has come to life: Garoppolo on this team next season as the starter.

Say it ain't so, John.
