Frank Gore is Back With the 49ers as an Adviser for the Front Office
A legend of the 49ers is back with the franchise.
Frank Gore is set to become an adviser for the 49ers front office effective immediately after he officially signed his contract.
The legacy with the 49ers for Gore only increases as he takes on this endeavor. Gore signed a one day contract with the 49ers last year to make his retirement official with the team he spent the majority of his career with. He is a beloved player with the franchise and with fans. It was painful for both parties to see him leave the team almost 10 years ago, but now he makes his return to help in a new capacity.
“We’re going to have Frank do a little bit of everything to expose him to all that the front office does,” 49ers general manager John Lynch told NBC Sports Bay Area. “He was with us in draft meetings from time to time. He’ll go out on the road with some of our road scouts to make school calls. He is a smart football mind, and we want to tap into it and he wants to learn from us, so it’s a good thing for everyone involved.”
It really isn't a surprise to see Gore take up this position with the 49ers. He was involved a bit when the 49ers were building up for the NFL draft. There was some foreshadowing already set there, especially with some comments from Lynch at the time.
"Frank showed an interest in coming in here," said Lynch in April prior to the NFL draft. "Somebody made that opportunity available to me years ago, and I was really grateful for it. If someone's willing to put the time in and is given as much as he has to the organization, then absolutely we're going to open our arms and, I think he learned a lot through the process.”
Gore finished his NFL career as the third-leading rusher in NFL history. Now he gets a chance to see if a role in an NFL front office is one he can make legendary as well.
