Predicting the Final Score Between the 49ers and the Packers

The rain could affect two of the 49ers' youngest, most-important players -- Brock Purdy and Jake Moody.
In this story:

You'd be nuts to pick the Packers to beat the 49ers, but this game will be closer than most people expect. Let's break it down.

Both teams have really good quarterbacks. The Packers have a really good offensive line and frankly the 49ers don't. That's where the Packers' advantages over the 49ers end.

The Packers have an excellent running back. The 49ers have the best running back.

The Packers have two young, promising, good tight ends. The 49ers have the best tight end.

The Packers have a young group of good wide receivers. The 49ers have two excellent wide receivers.

The Packers have a decent defense that has played pretty well at times the past few weeks. The 49ers have an elite defense.

So there's really no way the 49ers should lose, although it's supposed to rain during the game, and that's good news for the Packers. Because the rain could affect two of the 49ers' youngest, most-important players -- Brock Purdy and Jake Moody.

The one time the 49ers played in the rain this season -- Cleveland Week 6 -- Purdy was awful. His ball security and ball placement both were erratic. And Moody missed a potential game-winning field goal as time expired.

How will these two perform in the rain tonight? Will Purdy have to wear a glove on his throwing hand? Can the 49ers trust Moody to make multiple field goals if he has to? Because the offense might struggle to finish drives in the rain.

Look for this game to be low-scoring and come down to a field goal.

FINAL SCORE PREDICTION: 49ers 23, Packers 20.
