The 49ers' Best Addition of the Offseason

With so many good ones, it's hard to pick.

The 49ers have made some terrific additions to their roster so far this offseason.

They traded a seventh-round pick for defensive tackle Maliek Collins, who provides 100 percent of Arik Armstead's pass-rush production for a fraction of the price. They also signed Jordan Elliott and Yetur Gross-Matos, two quality backup defensive linemen.

In addition, the 49ers signed Isaac Yiadom, a solid veteran who might become their No. 3 cornerback next season. And finally, the 49ers signed Joshua Dobbs, a terrific backup quarterback who is better and cheaper than their previous backup quarterback, Sam Darnold.

But the 49ers best addition this offseason is Leonard Floyd, their new starting defensive end opposite Nick Bosa. The best starting defensive end the 49ers have had opposite Nick Bosa since they drafted him. Yes, even better than Dee Ford, who never was healthy for the 49ers.

The 49ers' previous starting defensive end, Chase Young, was awful, considering he barely tried. And yet, the Saints recently gave him a fully-guaranteed one-year deal woth $13 million. Hilarious. Meanwhile, the 49ers signed Floyd to a two-year deal worth $10 million per season. Which means Floyd is better AND cheaper than Young.

Last season, Young gave the 49ers 2.5 sacks in 9 regular season games, then infamously jogged around the field on run plays in the NFC Championship Game. As opposed to Floyd, who recorded 10.5 sacks for the Bills last season.

Floyd and Bosa should form one of the best edge-rushing duos in the NFL next season. Great addition.
