The Good and Not So Good from Day 11 of 49ers Training Camp 2023

The offense didn't show up today.

SANTA CLARA -- Here's who stood out Day 11 of 49ers training camp 2023.

THE GOOD

1. CB Charvarius Ward.

Dropped a potential interception thrown by Brock Purdy after locking up Brandon Aiyuk, who was running a slant route. When Ward wants to compete, he's a shutdown cornerback. Even Aiyuk has trouble beating him, and Aiyuk is elite.

2. NCB Isaiah Oliver.

Blitzed off the right edge of the defense, pressured Brock Purdy and forced him to throw an errant pass over the middle to no one. Oliver has had big-time success blitzing off the edge in camp. Let's see if his success translates to games.

3. DT Javon Hargrave.

Beat backup left guard Nick Zakelj for a sack during 11 on 11 team drills. Starting left guard Aaron Banks is out with a concussion.

4. FS Ji'Ayir Brown.

Made his first interception of training camp. He read Sam Darnold's eyes, followed him across the field as Darnold scrambled toward the sideline and made a leaping interception downfield. The 49ers' top-three safeties all are playmakers.

5. SS George Odum.

The No. 4 safety on the 49ers depth chart dropped his shoulder and knocked second-year running back Ty Davis-Price onto his butt during 11 on 11s. Odum is at least 20 pounds lighter than Davis-Price.

6. RB Jordan Mason.

Ran a draw on 3rd and long from the 49ers' side of the field and scored a touchdown on the play. Exploded through the middle of the defense and made multiple defenders whiff as he strung cuts together effortlessly. Mason clearly is the second-best running back on the roster after Christian McCaffrey.

THE NOT SO GOOD

1. RT Colton McKivitz.

Gave up a sack during 1-on-1 pass-rush drills to Clelin Ferrell, who has just 10 sacks in four seasons. McKivitz will struggle against good pass rushers this season. He'll play well when he faces backups like Kerry Hyder whom McKivitz beat twice today.

2. TE Cameron Latu.

Dropped two passes during 11 on 11s. First, he was running a deep crossing route and half-heartedly stuck up one hand to catch a pass that was thrown slightly above his head. Couldn't be bothered to use both hands. Later, Latu let a pass in the flat clank off both hands and hit the grass. He's the most lackadaisical rookie I've ever seen.

3. All the receivers.

They dropped six passes today. Brandon Aiyuk dropped one, Ronnie Bell dropped one, Willie Snead dropped one, Chris Conley dropped one and Cameron Latu dropped two. Eventually, the linebackers started laughing at the receivers from the sideline. Embarrassing.
