Two Key Starters on the 49ers Sustained Injuries Against the Lions
The San Francisco 49ers almost came out clean with injuries in their NFC championship win against the Detroit Lions.
Luckily, only two key starters sustained injuries. Kyle Shanahan revealed on Monday on a conference call that Ambry Thomas (ankle) and George Kittle (toe) emerged nicked up from the game. The injuries are not considered serious as Shanahan said that both players are being treated as "day-to-day" this week.
A huge sigh of relief there. Now is not the time for the injury bug to strike the 49ers as they prepare to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl to rematch from four years ago. Now, Thomas did leave the game due to his injury, which forced safety Logan Ryan to play in the slot. His injury could've been worse, but thankfully it isn't significant. The 49ers should be fully healthy entering the Super Bowl.
And since the game isn't for another two weeks, that gives the 49ers time to rest. Shanahan shed some light on what this week will look like for the 49ers.
“We had them in today. They're still in right now. We're just finishing this game right now. We'll give them the next two days off," Shanahan said. "Then we'll start our practice week and game plan here Thursday, Friday, Saturday. So when the players come back after their two days off, which will be Thursday, we should have the game plan in by then."
I wouldn't expect Kittle or Thomas to miss out on practice this week. At the worst, they'll be limited. Regardless, the 49ers have to feel amazing that no one suffered an injury that will keep them out of the big game.
