What Contributed to Brock Purdy's Poor Performance vs. the Packers?

Brock Purdy played poorly for the majority of the divisional playoff game against the Packers. What was the cause of it?

The amount of poor games that Brock Purdy has played this season are slim.

Only against the Browns and Ravens are performances that were low-level from him. But now, he can add his performance against the Packers in the divisional round to that list. Purdy was incredibly poor that game and was part of why the 49ers were inefficient offensively.

It was unexpected because the Packers don't field a strong defense, especially since the 49ers were rested against the Packers coming off a short week. Maybe they actually had a great plan against Purdy and had an outlier performance. Perhaps the playoff pressure actually got to Purdy along with rust being a factor. All of these factors certainly come into play for consideration into Purdy's low-level game, but what mainly contributed to his poor performance against the Packers?

The elements. Playing in the rain is so far not optimal for Purdy. In his lone rain game for the 49ers prior, he played incredibly poorly against the Browns. The way he was missing basic throws and was inaccurate in that game was similar against the Packers. That seems to be the common denominator and his actions spoke for it. He started the game with a glove on his throwing hand, then removed it later after not being comfortable with it.

But that didn't seem to matter too much either. There is a play in the game that was caught in a replay that showed Purdy wiping his hand in the middle of his drop back. The rain was messing with him too much and it ended up being a mental hurdle for him as well. Basically, unless Purdy is facing an elite defense or is playing the rain, then he will have a mediocre game. He wasn't even this bad in the losses against the Vikings and Bengals. It's just unfortunate that it rained in the divisional playoff game.

As of now, it doesn't look like that will be the case when the 49ers host the Lions in the NFC championship game. Purdy should be able to look normal again and perform to his normal silky-smooth self.
