Seventh Round

 On the clock...

  •  Bears now have to continue the long wait until the middle of Round 5. What if Fromm is still there when they come up in 5? Do they waste a pick at that point on him?
  •  They have to go safety first.
  • Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo. The Lions took my favorite offensive lineman. Logan Stenberg, the guy who said there's way too much "cupcake pretty-boy" football going on nowadays.
  • Here are your top-rated safeties according to Kevin Hanson of SI remaining for the Bears: K'Von Ellis, Clemson; Geno Stone, Iowa; J. R. Reed, Georgia; Alohi Gilman, Notre Dame; Antoine Brooks Jr., Maryland; Josh Metellus, Michigan; Khaleke Hudson, Michigan; Jalen Elliott, Notre Dame; Jordan Fuller, Ohio State.
  • Looking at that group, the Bears have to hope Stone makes it through to Round 5. Or Reed. Honestly, I'd rather have Jordan Fuller than any of them but Stone and SI has him rated the lowest of the group. Fuller has played in an outstanding secondary and those great cornerbacks didn't do it all by themselves.
  • Bradlee Anae, the shark-petting cliff-jumping edge rusher from Hawaii who played for Utah is still there too. But I'd doubt the Bears would even look for a pass rusher. They need that safety competitor.  How much confidence do you have in Kentrell Brice, Deon Bush, Jordan Lucas, DeAndre Houston-Carson and Sherrick McManis to find a starter from the group. I'd take McManis from that bunch and he's getting long of tooth.
  • This better be a good pick for the Bears at 163 because Ryan Pace in Rounds 6 and 7 so far ... one guy who started any games. That was Javon Wims, who started six times when the Bears were in specific formations or had injuries. No other sixth or seventh-rounder in his first five drafts has started. So you're not getting anything after this pick but someone to play special teams or practice squad.
  • James Morgan, Matt Nagy's guy. A Jet. Everyone in Green Bay is crushed. He grew up a stone's throw from the Hudson Center and all those mini malls next to it.
  • Charlie Heck, son of former Bear Andy. Another ND guy, Andy. Went a little earlier than I thought.
  • No surprise that Ellis went. The Bears have to hope Stone and Reed are still there in 21 picks. They spent some time talking with Brooks but he's so big he almost seems like a small linebacker.
  • Shaquille Quarterman the guy Jaguars took with the pick the Bears gave them to get Nick Foles, or Nick Folk as Michael Lombardi called him throughout his WSCR-AM 670 interview. Nick Folk was a kicker. Maybe he's watched too many Mitchell Trubisky videos.
  • With Bryce Hall, Bradlee Anae and Curtis Weaver all there, you have to wonder if the Bears even will take a safety. Those are players who should have gone by now and the Bears know plenty about Anae and Weaver.
  • Bears trade up with Vikings at 155.  The Bears have taken pass rusher Trevis Gipson from Tulsa. They spent plenty of time on him, after he spent much of last year in opposing backfields.
