Not So Fast with Trading Justin Fields

NFL.com ranks Justin Fields so high that trading him makes very little sense.

In this story:

For a quarterback who some people seem to think should be traded, Justin Fields sure owns an awfully high spot in the NFL.com quarterback rankings.

If Aaron Rodgers has enough light to read by in his dark room, he probably shouldn't read this because Fields has jumped from 28th in the NFL.com rankings after the 2021 season to 13th after the 2022 season. Not only that but Fields is actually ranked one spot ahead of Rodgers.

Sessler starts with a proper and accurate interpretation of what Bears GM Ryan Poles did by leaving open the door to drafting a quarterback first himself with the comment he'd have to be "blown away" before he'd want to go away from Fields for a rookie.

Basically, it's just gamesmanship, hoping to convince people he might actually do it so he can drive up the price for a trade down.

And Sessler draws the conclusion most informed and honest appraisals would, writing that it makes "little sense," for the Bears to trade Fields.

Fields is ranked above Kyler Gordon (16th), Kirk Cousins (17th), Daniel Jones (18th), Derek Carr (23rd) and Matthew Stafford (22nd).

This would all be news to Kyle Stackpole of CBS Sports, who released his latest mock draft and in it had the Bears choose 5-foot-10, 180-pound Alabama quarterback Bryce Young with the first pick because they're trade Fields.

Stackpole apparently needs to read Sessler's assessment and also that of the Athletic's Nate Tice, who Sessler points out does not "see a quarterback in this year's draft the equal of Fields."
