Mark Murphy Enjoying Success Against Bears

It's been since 2018 that the Bears beat Green Bay and Fox Sports reports CEO Mark Murphy was using his team's rivals as the subject of a joke.

Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy apparently is enjoying his team's dominance over the Bears. Some might say he's enjoying it a bit too much.

Fox Sports reported Murphy replied to a fan's inquiry about the vacant Packers defensive coordinator position with a hand-written Jan. 30 joke making light of the Bears.

The Packers had fired Joe Barry and were searching for a replacement before hiring former Boston College coach Jef Hafley. Underdog Fantasy's Dan McDermott, whose expertise in football is as a fan in fantasy football, applied for the defensive coordinator position.

Fox Sports reported Murphy responded with a letter, treating the application with all the seriousness it needed to be treated:

"Thanks so much for your cover letter and resume regarding our defensive coordinator position," Murphy’s note read. "While your fantasy football experience is impressive, I regret to inform you that we have decided to go in a different direction.

"I hear the Bears have an opening—you look to be a perfect fit for them. Thanks again."

The letter was posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, but has since been removed.

The Bears defensive coordinator opening was filled by Buffalo's Eric Washington, but it's expected coach Matt Eberflus will continue to make play calls on defense during games as he did in Weeks 2-18 last year following the departure of  former defensive coordinator Alan Williams.

The Bears ranked 12th last season on defense, 20th in points allowed and fifth in takeaways.

The Packers ranked 17th on defense, 10th in points allowed and tied for 28th in takeaways.

Green Bay has won 10 straight games against the Bears, its longest streak in the series.  The Packers won the last game of the 2023 season 17-9 over the Bears, who averaged 17 points in games against Barry's defenses.
