The shuffling with Chicago Bears secondary players continued Friday but it came with their practice squad.

The team released practice squad defensive back Macon Clark and signed defensive back Christian Matthew to their practice squad.

A 6-foot-2, 195-pound cornerback Matthew fits the Bears mold for taller cornerbacks with a long reach.

Matthew, a 2022 seventh-round pick by the Arizona Cardinals out of Georgia Southern, Samford and Valdosta State, started three games and played in 14 as a rookie, and was in each of the four games Arizona played this season but was released on Monday.

As a rookie, Matthew had three pass breakups and was on the field for 235 defensive plays.

With a new coaching staff this year he was shuffled to the background after allowing 66.7% completions and a passer rating when targeted of 89.0 as a rookie.

Safety Duron Harmon had just been signed off the Baltimore Ravens practice squad to the Bears roster on Tuesday.

Last week they signed defensive back Joejuan Williams to the 53-man roster after he had been waived by the Minnesota Vikings.

The Bears secondary has been ravaged by injuries as safety Eddie Jackson (foot), cornerback Jaylon Johnson (hamstring), cornerback Kyler Gordon (hand) and cornerback Josh Blackwell (hamstring) are out at the moment.
