Bears free agent third-team quarterback Nathan Peterman has signed with the New Orleans Saints for one year after two years in Chicago.

The Bears had signed Brett Rypien on Wednesday for the third QB role.

Peterman got into five games while with the Bears and started the season finale in 2022. He posted a 32.5 passer rating on 14 of 25 for 139 yards (56.1%) with one touchdown and one interception.

Last year Peterman started the season as the backup but quickly was moved behind undrafted Division II rookie Tyson Bagent. Peterman went 3-for-5 passing in two games in 2023 for 25 yards. He was on the practice squad briefly last season in October after being demoted to third quarterback, before being added to the 53-man roster again.

A fifth-round pick in 2017 by Buffalo, Peterman has a career passer rating of 39.4 with four TD passes and 13 interceptions.

With the Saints, he'll be vying for the backup job with Jake Haener and Taysom Hill behind Derek Carr.
