Bears Add Former Lions and Eagles Back
It wasn't Saquon Barkley the Bears aimed at among running backs.
In a manner of speaking, it was someone more Swift.
The Bears have quickly agreed to terms with running back D'Andre Swift on a three-year, $24 million deal, according to NFL Network.
Swift is coming off his best year in the league and first as the Eagles starter, with 1,049 yards on 229 carries and five rushing touchdowns. The first three years of his career came with the Lions and Detroit traded him last April after signing former Bears running back David Montgomery. Detroit also gave up a seventh-round pick and in return received a fourth-rounder in 2025 and a 2023 seventh-round pick from the Eagles.
Swift, who is 5-foot-9, 215 pounds and is 25 year old, is a multiple-use back, as he has 195 career receptions in four seasons. With the Lions, he never had more than 151 rushing attempts and was plagued by minor injuries.
On his career, Swift has 2,729 rushing yards on 593 attempts with 1,412 yards on his 195 receptions. He also has 23 rushing TDs and eight receiving TDs.
Rumors over the weekend had tied the Bears to interest in Barkley, the Giants running back.
A second-round pick in 2020 from Georgia, Swift will team with running backs Khalil Herbert and Roschon Johnson. Running back D'Onta Foreman is a free agent.
The signing does not become official until the 3 p.m. start of free agency signings on Wednesday.
