Roschon Johnson Close to Return

After two straight full practices, running back Roschon Johnson plans to return and play Sunday after a concussion, but the running back landscape now looks changed.
In this story:

Roschon Johnson is ready to return to the Bears lineup.

Where he's returning to exactly is the real question.

Johnson went through a full practice for the second straight day on Thursday and appears ready to come out of the concussion protocol come Friday or Saturday.

The landscape of the Bears running back position has changed somewhat since he suffered the concussion against the Washington Commanders on Oct. 5 and sat out the last two games.

D'Onta Foreman stepped in from the inactive list on Sundays to gain 154 yards rushing in two games and against the Raiders had two rushing TDs to go with one receiving. So it begs the question, is Foreman now ahead of Johnson?

"We've got a great running back room," Johnson said. "Regardless of who were putting back there, I feel like we're all going to produce. He did what he was supposed to do.

"At the end of the day coach is going to put in whoever he wants."

The really tough decision will occur when Khalil Herbert returns from the anke sprain suffered in the same game when Johnson was injured. Then they'd have all three available, plus newly acquired Darrynton Evans and Travis Homer.

Johnson's concussion was his first ever.

"I just thought it was like any other hit," he said. "Playing this position you're going to have some contact, have some big hits like that."

He hopes he has reached his quota.

"It happens, it does," he said. "God willing, I won't have any more."

The only change to the Bears injury report from Wednesday to Thursday was impovement by right tackle Darnell Wright. He practice Thursday on a limited basis after sitting out Wednesday due to a shoulder injury, which was obviously bothering him in Sunday's game. Wright gutted out the injury and would appear to have a chance, at least, of playing Sunday and blocking Khalil Mack.

Justin Fields (thumb), Terell Smith (illness), Nate Davis (ankle) and Jaquan Brisker (illness) didn't practice a second straight day. Marcedes Lewis wsa held out for rest as usual on a thursday.

Safety Eddie Jackson (foot), guard Dan Feeney (knee) and tackle Braxton Jones (neck, IR window) all went through limited practices.
