Titans Defensive Line Coach to Interview
The Bears are looking back to the former Tennessee Titans staff of Mike Vrabel for another defensive coordinator interview.
Defensive line coach/assistant head coach Terrell Williams will interview for their vacant defensive coordinato position according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Williams, who will be one of the head coaches in the Senior Bowl Feb. 3, has been in the NFL for 12 seasons and first came to the Titans as defensive line coach in 2018.
The other Bears reported defensive coordinator candidate is also from the Titans, cornerbacks coach and defensive passing game coordinator Chris Harris. He is a former Bears All-Pro safety.
Williams' defensive line had a big part in helping the Titans finish first against the run in 2022, as they allowed only 76.9 yards rushing per game. They were second against the run the previous season and the year before that finished fifth in sacks.
Williams coached the Miami Dolphins defensive line from 2015-17 and the Raiders defensive line from 2012-14. Prior to that, he was a college coach from 1998-2011, and coached Purdue's defensive line from 2006-09 and Texas A&M in 2010 and 2011. He also had stops at Akron (2004-05), Youngstown State (2002-03), North Carolina A&T (1999-2001) and Fort Scott Community College (1998), all as defenive line coach.
Bears coach Matt Eberflus hasn't said whether he'll give up defensive play calling if they hire a new defensive coordinator but did say he enjoys doing it.
The Bears defense improved from 29th in the league last year to 12th overall this season, and went from 31st against the run to No. 1.
