Players Waived

QB P.J. Walker: He had a better third preseason game than Tyson Bagent statisically but this is a decision based on what the coaches have seen in the quarterback room and on the practice field.  This doesn't necessarily mean Bagent is backup as Nathan Peterman is there. A case where it's Peterman first, then as the season progresses eventually Bagent? Walker's signing and failure should go on him more than GM Ryan Poles. There were plenty of off-season assessments saying they had one of the better backup quarterbacks in the league with that signing. In fact, Sports Illustrated ranked him 11th best backup  ahead of Tyrod Taylor, Marcus Mariota, Case Keenum and Bailey Zappe.

T Alex Leatherwood: Costs the Bears $4.59 million to cut him, half of it applied this year to the cap. A real mistake for the Bears in terms of picking him up, although at the time the gener consensus seemed to be it was worth the risk to bring in a first-round pick who had been waived. Now, with that cash hit staring at them, maybe not so much. Unlike the failure of Walker, this one should come down more on Poles' shoulders because the offensive line is supposed to be his greatest area of expertise.

S Bralen Trahan: Per Kevin Fishbain of The Athletic. He made plays on the ball all over the field in camp and didn't necessarily struggle in the preseason game. But he was competing against a draft pick in seventh-rounder Kendall Williamson, among others.

DT Bravvion Roy: At one time an insurance policy in case the three draft picks failed to deliver. They have been playmakers in preseason so he's not necessary as the backup. He's actually more of a fit for a two-gap front, anyway.

TE Lachlan Pitts: Per Brad Biggs of the Tribune. Apparently Stephen Carlson impressed to be a fourth tight end, provided they keep four. Pitts did make some plays in practice on occasion after arriving at a late date, Aug. 8. He's from Niles North High so maybe a practice squad return?

T Kellen Diesch:  The 6-foot-7 tackle had lots of snaps with backups and seemed to be making progress. Possible practice squad for a second year?

G Logan Stenberg:  This move per Courtney Cronin of ESPN. The Lions didn't see him in their picture, and if he couldn't fit in with the Bears considering their recent rash of line injuries then it's not saying a lot for his chances elsewhere.  However, he really didn't get much time to prove anything with the Bears.

T Bobby Haskins:  Undrafted former USC tackle could be another practice squad guy.

DE D'Anthony Jones: This cut according to Aaron Wilson. An undersized defensive end. In this scheme the ends need to be bigger and more stout. Jones is an explosive type but barely 6 feet.

DL Andrew Brown: Per Brad Biggs of the Tribune. Brown didn't distinguish himself with one tackle and two assists in preseason.

LB Davion Taylor:  This cut per the Tribune, kind of a surprise because he had been a linebacker who played a lot of games with a good Eagles defense and he didn't get much chance, since he didn't arrive in Chicago until Aug. 17. This could also say the injury suffered in the last preseason game by linebacker Noah Sewell isn't severel.

WR Daurice Fountain: He made some nice catches in camp and in preseason games, and was the leading receiver in preseason with seven catches for 116 yards. A team's practice squad could do much worse than to have someone like him on it.

WR Nsimba Webster: It seems like an annual rite of August for the Bears to cut Webster and bring him back to the practice squad. It also seems strange for a team with an unsettled return game to cut him considering his abilities in this area. He at least catches the punt.

CB Michael Ojemudia:  He is this year's Greg Stroman Jr. If you remember, Stroman had an outstanding final preseason game and was cut. Ojemudia had an excellent game on Saturday with three pass breakups. Maybe he'll end up back with the team later the way Stroman did.

Players Waived Injured

G Gabe Houy: Suffered a leg injury against the Bills and was carted off the field. It's likely he'll be back because players who are waived injured revert back to the
