Chicago Bears Finally Get Some Positive Injury News in the Secondary

The Bears have gotten mostly bad news on injured players in the secondary during training camp, but Monday provided a positive update for once.

It has been a rough training camp for the Chicago Bears when it comes to injuries, and that has been especially true in the secondary.

At the outset of training camp, both Kyler Gordon and Elijah Hicks were placed on the PUP list, and then it only took one padded practice before the Bears lost Coby Bryant for what could be around eight to 10 weeks, per reports.

Dallis Flowers and Gervarrius Owens have landed on injured reserve, and Jaylon Jones, Cam Lewis and Terell Smith have gotten injured at practice and missed time.

However, believe it or not, the Bears actually received some good injury news on Monday, as Lewis was taking part in the team's walkthrough.

"Good sign: Cam Lewis is out here participating in today’s walk-thru at Stevenson HS. He left practice on Saturday and did not practice yesterday," CHGO Bears' Adam Hoge reported.

That is obviously great news for the Bears after Lewis needed to be carted off the sideline following his injury. It also gives hope Lewis won't be sidelined for long.

A free-agent acquisition of the Bears during the offseason, Lewis was expected to provide depth at safety and nickel cornerback when he signed in March.

But now Lewis has an opportunity for a significant role right away, and he might have a few avenues to get it.

Lewis was competing against Jaylon Jones and Malik Muhammad for the slot cornerback role with Gordon sidelined, but the Bears moved him over to safety after Bryant's injury.

Lewis played the majority of his snaps at safety during his six years with the Buffalo Bills, but he also had nearly 500 snaps played in the slot in that span.

We're already beginning to see why Lewis was an attractive addition for the Bears, as his versatility could come in handy during the 2026 campaign.
