Bengals Bullish on Dax Hill Following Departures of Jessie Bates and Vonn Bell

Cincinnati took Hill with the 31st overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals officially introduced Nick Scott on Monday afternoon.

The 27-year-old veteran safety helps fill the void Jessie Bates and Vonn Bell left behind when they signed with the Falcons and Panthers, respectively.

Scott will start at safety this season. He'll be joined by Dax Hill.

The Bengals took the 22-year-old in the first round (31st overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft.

With Bell and Bates on the field most of the game, Hill didn't play much as a rookie, logging just 14% (131) of the Bengals' defensive snaps in the regular season.

With both starting safeties healthy, he saw time at outside corner, nickel corner and safety.

"There were some highs, obviously, the play made it into the New Orleans game was phenomenal," Bengals safeties coach Robert Livingston said on Monday. "Had some other really good plays. And there were some lows. I mean, that is what it is. You're a rookie. So it's a good starting point."

Hill had 16 tackles and one quarterback hit during his limited snaps.

It's safe to say the Bengals' coaches are bullish on the young safety going into the 2023 campaign.

"I got a lot of stresses and worries in my life and he's not one of them," Livingston said. "He's a first round pick for a reason. So I'm super excited."

Livingston believes Hill will benefit from playing safety and both cornerback spots as a rookie.

"I'm sure he wants a bigger role," Livingston said. "The opportunities now, it's what you do with that opportunity."
