CINCINNATI — The Cincinnati Bengals are re-signing Joseph Ossai to a one-year, $7 million contract, league sources confirm.

This was a priority for the Bengals throughout the day on Monday. They wanted to bring Ossai back and were able to get it done on Monday night.

After dealing with injuries early in his career, Ossai played in all 17 games last season. He finished with a career-high five sacks and 15 quarterback hits.

He'll turn 25 next month and appears to be an ascending player. Ossai tallied 24 tackles (four for loss), 10 quarterback hits and all five of his sacks in the Bengals' final seven games of the season.

He's been working out at Paycor Stadium this offseason.

The fact that the Bengals got a deal done with David Mulugheta of Athletes First is a step in the right direction.

A multi-year deal would've been a home run for the Bengals, but Ossai's camp preferred a short term deal so he can get to the market next season. It's a good signing, even if it's a short term deal.
