CINCINNATI — Evan McPherson has proven to be one of the NFL's best young kickers after the Bengals drafted him in 2021. The price to keep him around may have changed after Kansas City made Harrison Butker the highest-paid kicker in league history.

McPherson discussed it all after Butker inked a four-year, $25.6 million extension ($17.1 million guaranteed) this week.

"He's been around the block a little longer than I have, proved himself a little more, but I don't know," McPherson said about his negotiations entering the last year of his deal. "We're just still, grinding everything out, and we'll see if we can get something I'm not sure.

McPherson is keeping the even-keeled mindset of a kicker.

"I hope, I guess, I don't really hope, because if it happens, it happens," McPherson affirmed. "If it doesn't, it doesn't. But I cannot confirm nor deny what will conspire. Because truly, I'm not certain... it's just some unneeded stress to worry about that. Because at the end of the day, if I perform how I'm supposed to, it'll get done. And I believe that. And I think if I just keep my head down, keep playing, something will come up eventually."

"Money Mac" enters this season with an 83.9% make rate on field goals and a career 21-of-28 mark from 50-plus yards.
