Ja'Marr Chase Bounces Back, Helps Fuel Big Day for Joe Burrow and the Bengals' Offense

The rookie wide receiver made multiple nice catches on Monday.

CINCINNATI — Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase bounced back in a big way on Monday afternoon.

The star rookie didn't drop a pass during practice, which was a welcome sight to quarterback Joe Burrow and the rest of the offense.

Chase had three drops in Washington on Friday and put two more balls on the ground during Sunday's practice.

Chase caught everything that was thrown his way on Monday. He even took extra reps with all three quarterbacks during special teams drills for the second-straight practice.

The highlight of the day came in the red zone when Chase made a twisting contested catch by the pylon for a touchdown.

His teammates cheered for him throughout the session. They were clearly trying to rally around their guy after what had been a long couple of days.

"He’ll start making more plays because we’ll continue to go to him," Tyler Boyd said before practice. "He knows myself and Tee, Joe and everybody else, ‘we got your back, bro.’ Like I said, it’s not easy, especially being out in this league. But everything else he’s doing, he’s done right. He knows what to do, he knows how to run his routes, he’s winning, it’s just he’s overthinking at the catch point.”

Chase's struggles have been well documented, but Monday might've been exactly what he needed to stop the drops and get back to playing his game.

Offensive Flurry

Burrow played great on Monday. Not only did he complete multiple passes to Chase, but he also connected with Tyler Boyd and Mike Thomas in team drills.

If Chase's catch in the red zone was the play of the day, then Burrow's deep ball to Tee Higgins was a close second. It was certainly the best downfield pass we've seen since camp started.

Burrow slid to his left in 11-on-11s and threw a perfect ball to Higgins, who outran Jessie Bates and Vonn Bell to make the 55-yard touchdown catch.

Don't look now, but the offense continues to take steps forward after a slow start in camp.

Rookie Spotlight

Rookie running back Chris Evans continues to flash his potential. The sixth-rounder made an over the shoulder catch in team drills that would make any wide receiver proud.

Evans has made plays like that consistently over the past few weeks. Don't be shocked if he makes an impact at some point this season. He's a lock to make the 53-man roster.

Offensive Line Update

Quinton Spain started at left guard again on Monday. Xavier Su'a-Filo was at right guard. The battle for those two starting spots is far from over.

Rookie Jackson Carman stayed after practice to get some extra work in. Carman is battling Su'a-Filo and Michael Jordan for the starting right guard job.

Spain is trying to hold off rookie D'Ante Smith, who missed Friday's game due to dehydration.
