PFF Notes Bengals Should Sign Ja'Marr Chase Ahead of Training Camp

Cincinnati hasn't been very quick to extend non-QBs over the last decade.

CINCINNATI — PFF ran down the one move each NFL team should make in the final weeks before training camp. They think Cincinnati needs to extend Ja'Marr Chase.

It's smarter to pay your elite talent as early as possible in professional sports.

"The Bengals' choice is a no-brainer: they have to give Ja'Marr Chase a mega deal," Thomas Valentine wrote. "The wide receiver has been playing at historic levels since he was drafted in 2021, catching 268 passes for 3,717 yards and 29 touchdowns in three seasons while becoming one of the league's elite wide receivers. The case for him to be re-signeddoesn’t need to be made. Chase's fifth-year option has already, predictably, been accepted, and parlaying his 2024 and 2025 cap hits into a longer-term deal to bring the year-to-year hit down is a smart move for the Bengals, especially when Chase could earn in the region of $30 million per year on average."

It makes zero sense for Cincinnati to do anything but a full-court press to sign Chase as soon as possible. Waiting just makes financial trouble with the roster more likely as the decade rolls on.
