Instant Analysis: Cincinnati Bengals Take Athletic Edge Rusher Jeffrey Gunter in Seventh Round

CINCINNATI — The Bengals selected Coastal Carolina defensive end Jeffrey Gunter in the seventh round (252 overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft. 

The 22-year-old tested like an elite athlete during the pre-draft process. He ran a 4.7 40-yard dash and did 30 reps of 225 pounds on the bench press. He also had a 35.5-inch vertical leap, jumped over 10 feet in the broad jump and ran a 4.35-second short shuttle. 

Mix it all together and he tested in the 97th percentile among defensive ends. 

Gunter had 99 tackles (22.5 for loss) and 13 sacks over the past two seasons. Look for him to compete with Wyatt Hubert and the rest of the edge rushers.
