Zac Taylor Praises Eli Apple: 'He's Done Some Really Good Things for Us This Year'
CINCINNATI — There's been plenty of outside speculation about the Bengals' cornerback situation over the past few weeks, but head coach Zac Taylor cleared the air on Wednesday.
He praised Eli Apple and made it clear that the 26-year-old will start at cornerback for the foreseeable future.
"Eli is the starting corner right now and those other guys have roles that they start to work their way into," Taylor said. "He does what we ask him to do. I don’t know who’s got him under fire. We expect our guys to play at a high level and Eli’s got a short memory, you know, if you give up a play that corners are going to give up he does a great job kinda putting that away and moving onto the next play and that’s critical. It’s one of the hardest positions to play in all of football."

Apple has 30 tackles and three passes defensed in nine games this season. He's made eight starts for the Bengals and with Trae Waynes (hamstring) on injured reserve, he's going to continue to start at cornerback.
The Bengals did acquire Tre Flowers and Vernon Hargreaves III on waivers, but those guys are behind Apple on the depth chart.
“He does a great job, he plays with a high degree of confidence," Taylor said. "He’s done some really good things for us this year.”
The Bengals travel to Las Vegas to play the Raiders on Sunday. Apple will start alongside Chidobe Awuzie.
