CINCINNATI — The Ravens were hoping to re-sign Jadeveon Clowney in free agency, but the former top pick has agreed to a two-year contract with the Panthers worth up to $24 million according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Clowney has spent the past three seasons in the AFC North. He tied a career-high with 9.5 sacks for Baltimore last season and was a big part of their pass rush.

The 31-year-old is from Rock Hill, South Carolina. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft after playing his college ball at the University of South Carolina.

It's a homecoming for Clowney and a happy day for Joe Burrow and the Bengals. They have one less high end pass rusher to worry about in the division. Clowney had four sacks and seven quarterback hits in six games against the Bengals over the past three seasons.

The Bengals do play the Panthers in Carolina this year.
