2023 Franchise Tag Figures: How Expensive Would Tagging Germaine Pratt Be?

The Bengals have a big decision to make surrounding the linebacker's future this offseason.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — The Bengals have a few decisions to make about in-house free agents.

They used the franchise tag on Jessie Bates III last year and that's an option for a guy like Germaine Pratt.

Check out the salary breakdown for every franchise tag (average of top-five cap hits at the position over past five years).

Quarterback = $32,416,000

Running Back = $10,091,000

Wide Receiver = $19,743,000

Tight End = $11,345,000

O-Line = $18,244,000

Defensive End = $19,727,000

Defensive Tackle = $18,937,000

Linebacker = $20,926,000

Cornerback = $18,140,000

Safety = $14,460,000

Kicker/Punter = $5,393,000

The only real candidate for the tag production-wise is Pratt, who will not be getting $21 million a year. His average annual value on Spotrac as of this writing is $10.6 million.

Don't expect a repeat use of the franchise tag in 2023.
