Bengals Have Chance to Bolster Defensive Line After Chargers Waive Sebastian Joseph-Day
CINCINNATI — The Bengals could give their defensive line another boost following DJ Reader's season-ending quad injury.
Defensive tackle Sebastian Joseph-Day was waived by the Chargers on Friday according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The veteran has three sacks this season. he also has 25 quarterback pressures according to Pro Football Focus.
Joseph-Day would give Cincinnati some much needed depth on the interior of their defensive line. They acquired rookie defensive tackle Travis Bell earlier this week. They also signed Domenique Davis to the active roster.
They could still make room for the veteran, despite making those moves.
If the Bengals acquired Joseph-Day, they would have to pay him $722,222 over the final two games of the season. He's owed more than $7 million next season, but it's non-guaranteed and they could move on without acquiring any dead money.
Waivers will process on Monday, Dec. 25 at 4 p.m. ET. That means the Bengals can look at their defense, assess their performance against the Steelers and then make a decision about Joseph Day.
