CINCINNATI — The Bengals placed offensive tackle Trent Brown on injured reserve on Saturday afternoon.

The veteran suffered a torn patellar tendon in his right knee during Cincinnati's 38-33 loss to Washington on Monday night and will miss the rest of the season.

With Brown out, rookie Amarius Mims will make his first NFL start on Sunday in Carolina. The 18th overall pick had an impressive preseason. Meanwhile, Cincinnati will wait to fill Brown's roster spot until after the game.

It gives them some flexibility with guys like Myles Murphy and McKinnley Jackson eligible to be activated from injured reserve on Monday.
