Gerald McCoy Isn't Retiring Anytime Soon: 'I Got A Lot Left'
CINCINNATI — Veteran defensive tackle Gerald McCoy was released by the Cowboys in August after he suffered a ruptured quadriceps tendon during training camp.
He's currently rehabbing and hopes to be back in the NFL next season.
"No, I'm not done by a long stretch," McCoy said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd. "I've been getting this question: 'Are you retired? Are you done?' And I'm like 'because I got injured? Am I the first person to be 10 years in and get injured?' If you ask me am I done or gonna retire, I'm kinda taking it as disrespect because that means you was kinda thinking I was gonna be done in the first place. So instead of getting angry and taking it as disrespect, I'm going to use it as motivation. It's a blessing in disguise. I got a lot left and now I'm motivated to just show that. Anybody who's listening, I got a lot left and I'm ready to rock."
McCoy will be 33-years-old next month. He's a 10-year veteran that spent his first nine seasons in Tampa Bay, before signing with Carolina in 2019.
The six-time Pro Bowler says he feels great and believes he can be an asset to a contending team.
McCoy appeared in all 16 games for the Panthers last season, finishing with five sacks, 37 tackles and 13 quarterback hits.
The veteran has plenty to prove and won't command big money at this stage of his career. He'll probably be looking to latch onto a contender this offseason.
McCoy has never played in a postseason game.
