Giovani Bernard Works Out with Tom Brady, Other Buccaneers' Teammates for First Time

Bernard signed a one-year contract with Tampa Bay in April.

CINCINNATI — The Bengals released running back Giovani Bernard last month. He signed with the Buccaneers five days later. 

The defending Super Bowl Champions got together for a workout on Monday. Star quarterback Tom Brady was joined by Rob Growkowski, Chris Godwin, Ronald Jones, Cameron Brate and other teammates, including Bernard. 

"Welcome to the squad baby," Brady said on Instagram accompanied with a picture of Bernard.

The veteran is a perfect fit in Tampa Bay's offense. Bernard is a high-end pass blocker, with great hands and athleticism. He should thrive alongside Brady and the rest of the Bucs' offense. 

Bernard spent the first eight seasons of his career in Cincinnati. The Bengals took him in the second-round (37th overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft. He appeared in 115 games (30 starts), finishing with 3,697 rushing yards and 22 touchdowns.

Bernard has the most receptions for a running back in Bengals' history (342).

"You can already feel the difference," Bernard said last month after signing with the Bucs. "I'm just really excited to join this organization, just to be here. As soon as I walked into the building, whether that's facility staff, or whether that's the cooks, or whether that's the guys in the training room, to the, just to everybody here, you can tell there's an excitement still buzzing."

With Bernard no longer in town, Joe Mixon is expected to have an even bigger role on offense for the Bengals.
