CINCINNATI — Tee Higgins and the Bengals didn't agree on an extension ahead of Monday's deadline.

The 25-year-old will play on the franchise tag and will make $21.8 million this season. Higgins is scheduled to become a free agent next March.

This felt inevitable after the Bengals used the tag on the star wide receiver in February. He is the only franchise tagged player that didn't agree to a long-term contract this offseason.

Cincinnati took Higgins in the second-round (33rd overall) in the 2020 NFL Draft. He has 257 catches for 3,684 yards and 24 touchdowns in 58 career games.
