Ja'Marr Chase Calls Out Chiefs Secondary Ahead of Bengals' AFC Championship Rematch

Kansas City hosts Cincinnati on Sunday in an AFC Championship Game rematch.
In this story:

CINCINNATI — Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase isn't afraid to speak his mind. The 23-year-old shared his thoughts on the Chiefs secondary ahead of Sunday's game in Kansas City.

"Nothing," Chase said when asked what stood out about the secondary. "They throw a little double-double at us to stop the two best players on the outside and that's all they do. It's not really like they got a Jalen Ramsey on their side, so not much."

Chase was a limited participant in practice on Thursday. He's dealing with a separated shoulder that caused him to miss Cincinnati's Week 16 matchup with Pittsburgh. He certainly talked like someone that planned on playing on Sunday.

"They could take it how they wanna. I don't care," he said. "I know what I see on paper and I know what I see in game. That's why they double everybody. Because they can't do it 1-on-1. The best player on they team is L'Jarius Sneed. Everybody knows that. That's why they double-double everything they see.

"They know I'm good. They know how to play us. That's what it is, but it's not like they got a superstar on their defense."

Chase has 93 catches for 1,156 yards and seven touchdowns this season.

The Chiefs doubled Chase and Tee Higgins in their matchup with the Bengals in the AFC Championship game last January. Kansas City won the game 23-20.

This didn't feel like sour grapes. It felt like brute honesty.

"I'm just adding fire to the fuel right now. They gonna take this and run with it," Chase said. "I hope they post it in their locker.

"Some days I wake up pissed off. Today is one of them. It's gotta do with everything."

The Bengals are 8-7 on the season. If they win their final two games of the year, they'll have a 93% chance of making the postseason.
