Here's the Latest on La'el Collins and the Bengals

A small update as Collins-watch continues.

CINCINNATI — Are the Bengals going to sign free agent right tackle La'el Collins?

Things were progressing well and both sides were "close" to striking a deal sources told All Bengals on Friday night.

So what's taking so long?

It looks like it could be the physical. Malik Wright of the WrightWay Sports Network hinted that medicals were the only box that needed to be checked for a deal to get done.

Collins missed the entire 2020 season after undergoing hip surgery. That's certainly a factor in their decision to sign him. The 28-year-old did recover and play in 12 games last season. He was suspended for the first five, but was healthy enough to suit up following his suspension.

It also feels like the Bengals are all-in on making this deal work. Offensive line coach Frank Pollack praised Collins on Friday and the team hasn't been in talks with any other free agent right tackles up to this point.

This could change quickly, but the Bengals are focused on landing Collins and it could come down to the physical.
