Patrick Mahomes On Ankle Sprain: 'I'll Push Today And The Next Day'
CINCINNATI — Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid sounded pretty confident the Chiefs quarterback would be ready to roll for Sunday's game against the Bengals. Still, his practice appearances this week will be telling.
“He did the walkthrough this morning, and he'll practice this afternoon,” Reid told the media on Wednesday.
Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain last week against Jacksonville during the first half, eventually returning to finish the game.
“It’s doing good. A few days of treatment, a few days of rehab,” Mahomes said. “Excited to be on the practice field and kind of test it out and see where I’m at. But, it’s feeling good so far.”
The Bengals have moved ahead of KC as slight favorites to win the AFC, making Patrick Mahomes an underdog in a playoff game for the first time in his career.
“Especially when you have different ankles at the quarterback position, you’re planting and throwing off different stuff,” Mahomes said. “So, the last one, it was the leg that I landed on, so I had to find other ways to throw where I could land and keep it in the right spot. This time, I’ll have to find ways to be able to push off and still be able to make throws the right ways. So, definitely similar in a sense but different limitations and stuff that I’ll have to work through.”
Cincinnati fights Kansas City for a spot in the Super Bowl this Sunday at 6:30 p.m. ET on CBS. The game is available via fuboTV—start your free trial here.
