Report: Bengals Rookie Receiver Jermaine Burton Accused of Assault
CINCINNATI — Bengals wide receiver Jermaine Burton is accused of assaulting a woman he was dating, but she refused to press charges according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.
The incident took place the morning of Dec. 30. The Bengals traveled to Pittsburgh for their season finale on Friday, January 3. Burton didn't travel with the team.
The reports indicate that the 19 year old woman called police for help around 8:45 a.m.
Burton allegedly chased the woman insider her apartment, damaged her phone, assaulted her and even held a knife to his neck and threatened to kill himself.
The woman initially chose to file charges, but changed her mind.
Burton is also being evicted according to a court filing from Dec. 23.
Burton struggled both on and off the field as a rookie. He finished with just four catches for 107 yards. He was inactive for two different games, despite being healthy.
