Report: NFL Had 'Some Discussion' About Playing Bills-Bengals At Neutral Site
CINCINNATI — The NFL talked about playing a potential Bills-Bengals playoff game at a neutral site—but didn't land on that as a final choice.
NFL executive vice president of football operations discussed the whole event with The Buffalo News this week.
“There was some discussion," Vincent said about a neutral site game, "but membership thought it was best for (only) the championship game to be at a neutral site."
The NFL VP came under fire over the last few weeks for contradicting reports that the NFL wanted the regular season Bills-Bengals game to finish. Ultimately, it never did following Damar Hamlin's cardiac arrest and the league decided to change the playoffs as a result.
Cincinnati does not get a chance to play Buffalo on a neutral field because they played the same amount of games and lost one more.
Alas, the Bengals would've finished with a better record by tiebreaker and notched the two seed, assuming they held onto the 7-3 lead over Buffalo.
Regardless, it's finalized. The game is getting played in Orchard Park, New York, and not on the road, where the Bills are 0-4 in the playoffs under Sean McDermott.
Cincinnati and Buffalo meet in the divisional round this Sunday at 3 p.m. ET on CBS. The game is available via fuboTV—start your free trial here.
