Running Back Market Continues to Shift, Austin Ekeler Wants to be Traded

Ekeler and Joe Mixon could have news teams this offseason.

CINCINNATI — Chargers running back Austin Ekeler asked the team permission to seek a trade according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

It's just the latest report about a running back market that's flooded with talent this offseason, especially in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Chargers aren't the only team that could have a new-look backfield next season.

Joe Mixon's future in Cincinnati uncertain. The 26-year-old could be released this offseason. The Bengals could save over $7 million in cap space if they released Mixon.

Oddly enough, Ekeler would be a perfect fit in the Bengals' offense. It's unlikely that they would pursue a veteran like Ekeler, but Cincinnati is reportedly interested in Lions running back Jamaal Williams. He ran for 17 touchdowns and averaged 4.1 yards-per-carry last season.

Ekeler is entering the final year of his contract
