'One (Bleeping) Game!' Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen 'Snapped' at Stefon Diggs After Week 1 Loss to New York Jets
Trouble may have been brewing from the very beginning of the season between Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs.
Buffalo Bills reporter for The Athletic, Tim Graham, spoke about the aftermath of their 22-16 overtime loss to the New York Jets in Week 1 on his podcast, "TGAF: Tim Graham And Friends." He said with him and the rest of the media in the locker room, teammates were meeting with Allen at his locker and trying to pick him up after his four-turnover performance.
Graham said all was well until Diggs got to him, and whatever the former Bills receiver said drew a vigorous reaction from Allen.
"Josh Allen snapped at him, and he said 'It's one f****** game' and motioned I'm not talking to you here," Graham said. "Diggs walked away and Josh sat there...He didn't snap at anybody else. A stream of players were coming over, popping him on the shoulder pads, or patting him on the back, or dapping him up. Whatever Stefon Diggs said to him, Josh Allen wasn't having it."
Allen's performance against a Jets team that only had Aaron Rodgers for four snaps was one of his worst of the season. He completed 29 of 41 passes for 236 yards, one touchdown to Diggs and three interceptions and he lost a fumble.
Football is an emotional game. Players can often get into heated arguments with their teammates or coaches in the heat of battle then be fine with each other once the dust settles.
Allen and Diggs getting into it after the first game of the regular season isn't nothing, though, especially considering how they lost in the playoffs to the Cincinnati Bengals the previous season and it was clear the now Houston Texans receiver was upset with the Bills quarterback. While Allen was right that it was just one game and the Bills rebounded to win the AFC East for the fourth straight season, Week 1 likely set in motion the issues that eventually led to their split with Diggs getting traded to the Texans on Wednesday.
With Graham's comments and recollection of the locker room after Week 1, it's clear that a split was likely always inevitable between what was once one of the best duos in football.
