Bills LB Baylon Spector Injured; When Could He Return?
The Buffalo Bills have yet to reveal their depth chart for this season, meaning fans still don't know who will be starting at middle linebacker.
One of the candidates for this spot, Baylon Spector, has been competing with Tyrel Dodson and Terrel Bernard throughout the offseason. However, Spector could possibly miss Week 1 against the New York Jets after suffering a hamstring injury in Saturday's preseason finale against the Chicago Bears.
Bills coach Sean McDermott said that Spector's injury is week-to-week, and that the team fortunately didn't experience any other major ailments from Saturday.
"He's a ballplayer, dude," Bills safety Micah Hyde said of Spector during training camp. "Just a guy who is around the ball it seems like all the time."
Spector, 24, appeared in just six games last season, totaling six solo tackles in those contests.
The linebacker position has been an interesting position group and battle to watch this offseason.
Though a decision hasn't been made, Bills linebackers coach Bobby Babich called the starting linebacker spot a "true competition" and noted that it he'd like it to be settled "sooner rather than later" while hinting that the position battle is down to Dodson and Bernard.
"We want to see a little bit more of Tyrel and Terrel," he said. " ... That's just where we're at right now. That’s not an indictment on Baylon by any means. He’s getting plenty of Mike reps, are they all coming with the 1’s? No, but he’s getting the repetition load that’s needed where he can prove himself."
The Bills and Jets will kickoff on Monday, Sept. 11 at 8:15 p.m. ET.
