Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin 'Ready to Walk Through Fire' in Return vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin could remain inactive once again for Sunday's game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium, but in a return to the field where his life nearly ended, he's ready to embrace all the emotions that come from the entire experience.
Hamlin made an appearance Thursday on Bills linebacker Von Miller's podcast and opened up about what he's feeling ahead of game that's set to be impactful for both teams in more ways than one.
“I think it’s going to be super electric, and I think it’s going to be nothing but love,” Hamlin said. “Only thing I got to compare it to is just going back into our stadium and how much love and reception. Going back into there, I’m pretty sure it’ll be like a bunch of memories, which will make it emotional for me. But, I ain’t running from it, I’m ready to walk through the fire.”
Hamlin has yet to appear in a game this season as he's remained on the inactives list in each week since the preseason ended. Across Buffalo's three preseason games, Hamlin posted 10 total tackles.
Hamlin sat out of Wednesday's practice due to illness but returned as a full participant on Thursday and Friday.
It's unclear if the Bills will activate Hamlin for Sunday's game. The Bills have battled injuries in the secondary this season, meaning he could provide depth in the back end while also playing a role on special teams.
However, his game status is taking a backseat on a night that will also be about things bigger than football.
Buffalo and Cincinnati kickoff on Sunday night at 8:20 p.m. ET.
