Bills GM Reveals Josh Allen 'Only Criticism': 'Too Many Bruises!'
"Too many bruises!''
In the end, Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills fell something short of perfect; Hey, everybody needs a goal ...
But at the same time, Bills GM has only one nit to pick with his stellar QB.
“The only thing I’d get on to him is he’s got too many bruises on him,” Beane said, per the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle. “And we’ve got to work on taking less hits. That’s the only reason I’m going to ever criticize Josh is just take less hits.”
For Allen, this is familiar territory, and his macho counterargument essentially comes down to, "Hey, this is football.''
But the vision is for the big-bodied Allen, who is just 26 and an MVP finalist, to be doing grand things in Western New York for a long time. And frankly, Beane will get to be here a long time, too ... maybe in part based on Allen's longevity.
So it is in everybody's best interests to "go for it'' ... to a point.
It's worth noting that Allen's "bruises'' don't just happen because he gets hit in the traditional QB manner. Part of the Bills' run game success was about the starting quarterback running.
Allen recorded a career-high 124 rushing attempts this past season, and often was Buffalo's most productive runner. In the meantime, he also absorbed 33 sacks in 2022 - ah, the "traditional bruises'' - which amounts to the the second-most takedowns of his career.
Is there a balance to be found as the Bills chase that Super Bowl dream? The longevity of the QB - and the GM - might depend on it.
