Bills' Greg Rousseau Reveals ‘Focus’ of Season
By the time Von Miller finishes his career in Buffalo, as he intends, the Bills have good reason to believe they will already have another pass rusher who terrorizes quarterbacks just as efficiently.
Defensive end Greg Rousseau, entering his third season, is that player. Not only does he look like Miller at times the way he beats tackles on the perimeter, but he's starting to sound like him too.
Just look at what Rousseau had to say after Wednesday's practice to get a feel for this:
“I focus more so on the process rather than the outcome. I'm not focused on, `oh, I've got to get this many sacks.' I've got to win my one-on-ones, help the team win ballgames,” he said. “Team success is individual success, so I'm not worried about numbers and all that. I'm worried about doing my job, making sure I'm locked in on my keys and everything and helping the team win."
Right around the same time, Miller stepped to the podium in the interview room and expressed an identical approach for his rehab from last season's torn ACL, which will keep him out of action for at least the first four games of this season.
Although Miller couldn't say if he'll be ready as soon as he's eligible to play, which would be Oct. 8 against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London, he did admit that he's ready to take whatever happens in stride.
"I'm really just trying to focus on the process, not the outcome," he said. "I really just want to focus on the process of trying to be the best football player I could possibly be, trying to be the best leader I could possibly be.
"Obviously, the best leadership is coupled with production and being out there with the guys."
That Miller won't be able to take the field against the New York Jets Monday night, he will do whatever it takes to get back without risk of further damage.
Rousseau, coming off a season in which he produced eight sacks in 13 games, is just going to make the little things add up to something big.
"You know you want to win the Super Bowl," he said, "... but what are you doing to put yourself closer to winning the Super Bowl. You can have all the goals in the world, but you've got to put the work in. You've got to say, `oh, I've got to get extra cardio or have extra lift or I'm going to watch an extra 45 minutes of film. ... So it's little things like that."
