Bills Catch Break With Raiders WR Jakobi Meyers OUT for Week 2
Though he lacks the speed and explosiveness to be a true top "X" receiver in the NFL, Jakobi Meyers of the Las Vegas Raiders proved to Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott two and sometimes three times per season since entering the league in 2019 that he can do significant damage with or without the football.
In Week 1, for example, Meyers led the Raiders with nine receptions in a season-opening win over the Denver Broncos. But he took a hit to his helmet during the game-sealing drive and has been in the concussion protocol since. On Friday, he was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Bills in Orchard Park.
Meyers spent his first four seasons with the New England Patriots before joining his former offensive coordinator, Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels, in Las Vegas this year. Safe to say the Bills are familiar with him.
"He's a player I have a lot of respect for, you know, playing him in the division for a few years and watching him grow and develop," McDermott said. "Very physical football player at the wide receiver position, which those two don't always go hand-in-hand.
"He's extremely involved in the run game and he's a great route runner and I have a ton of respect for his game."
The Bills, meanwhile, are technically as healthy as can be, though top edge rusher Von Miller (PUP list) won't be eligible to play until Week 5. Center Mitch Morse (finger) was the only player listed on their injury report Friday, and he was a full go at practice.
He's not expected to be restricted at all on Sunday when the Bills and Raiders kickoff at 1 p.m. ET from Orchard Park.
