Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs OUT vs. Colts; Will Other Bills Starters Play?

The Buffalo Bills host the Indianapolis Colts at 1 p.m. on Saturday, but will be without Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs.

The Buffalo Bills are back in action this weekend, but they will be without a few key players.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced on Thursday that quarterback Josh Allen and receiver Stefon Diggs will not play in the first preseason game.

As for the other starters, McDermott said they will be in the game for roughly a quarter depending on how things shake out.

"They'll play give or take a quarter just again, depending on who it is and in the situation in the game. Overall, we want to get them where they need to go but also then, take a good look at some of the young players," McDermott said.

McDermott also said Allen won't sit out the whole preseason.

With Allen out of the fray, quarterbacks Matt Barkley and Kyle Allen will lead the offense. The reps could prove especially beneficial for Kyle, who is in his first year with the Bills. Kyle is entering his sixth season after spending his first five years with the Carolina Panthers (2018, 2019), Washington Commanders (2020, 2021) and Houston Texans (2022).

Bills rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid, who has been turning heads at training camp, will see his first action against an opposing team. Buffalo traded up in the first round to take Kincaid in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Bills are also expected to flash some new additions on the other side of the ball. Defensive back Taylor Rapp and defensive end Leonard Floyd will likely see the field for the first time with the Bills.

Buffalo's defense will likely see plenty of the Colts first round pick, quarterback Anthony Richardson.
