Josh Allen, Bills Starters IN vs. Steelers; How Long Will They Play?

Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs will get their first preseason action for the Buffalo Bills on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen is set to play for the first time this preseason.

Bills coach Sean McDermott announced that Allen and the rest of the team's starters will play on Saturday, as Buffalo goes on the road to face the Pittsburgh Steelers at 6:30 p.m. ET.

Allen didn't play in Buffalo's first preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts this past Saturday.

"It's to get them ready for the season," McDermott said. "We took a little bit of a different approach last year. This year, we're going back to what we've somewhat done in the years past ... Just trying to do right by the players and getting them ready to go for Week 1."

McDermott said Allen and the rest of the starters will play for about a quarter and a half.

"You want to get them ready in as much dress rehearsals as you can put them in to make sure that they're ready to go," McDermott said. "It's what we feel like is the right thing for the team this year and where we're at."

In Allen's only start last preseason, he was 3 for 3 for 45 yards and a touchdown against the Denver Broncos. In 2021, he saw more extensive action against the Green Bay Packers, completing 20 of 26 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns in his lone start.

The Bills' first regular season game is on Sept. 11 at 8:15 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football.
