Bills Restructure Josh Allen, Von Miller Contracts, Create Much-Needed Cap Room
The Buffalo Bills were busy on Monday as the NFL's legal tampering period began, as the team added some new faces, saw some familiar ones go and re-signed current talent.
But in order to make more moves once free agency officially begins on Wednesday, the Bills needed to address their cap issue. They did just that Monday night by restructuring the contracts of two of their stars, as quarterback Josh Allen and linebacker Von Miller saw their current deals altered, per reports from ESPN's Field Yates.
While the specific changes of the restructuring are unknown as of now, the Bills freed up $32 million dollars in cap room as a result, a move that gives the team some much-needed financial flexibility as the offseason treads on.
While the Bills are unlikely to use this newfound cap space on a major splash in free agency, it could help them extend talent they'd potentially acquire in a would-be trade. Adding depth with some smaller signings seems more likely, though it's hard to rule anything out.
Buffalo already lost star linebacker Tremaine Edmunds on Monday, as it was announced that he'll be signing a massive deal with the Chicago Bears. Veteran Jordan Poyer seems to be headed toward a departure as well, while running back Devin Singletary is in the same boat.
After only just one day of moves, the Bills roster looks quite different. And with their newly-created cap room, expect more changes and additions in the coming weeks and days.
